About Ravolva

What Ravolva is for

Ravolva helps households in Norway decide whether solar panels, a battery or other energy measures are worth it, and how large they should be. The answer is based on your own measured electricity use, not on an average household.

The same measures can pay off very differently in two homes, because consumption, location, roof and electricity contract all differ. Ravolva therefore starts from your data and shows the assumptions behind every number.

Which data it uses

  • Your hourly electricity consumption, imported from Tibber, Elhub or a file. If you already have solar panels, measured production can be added too.
  • Solar conditions at your location from PVGIS, the European Commission’s solar database.
  • Hourly spot prices for your price zone from ENTSO-E, the European transmission system operators.
  • The grid tariff of your network company, found from your postal code.
  • Measured outdoor temperature from Open-Meteo, used to estimate how much of your consumption goes to heating.

What it calculates

  • Hour by hour over a year: how much solar power you would produce, how much of it you would use yourself, and how much you would sell to the grid.
  • How a battery would charge and discharge, either to store your own solar power or to follow the hourly prices, including its effect on the capacity part of the grid tariff.
  • Investment, annual savings, payback time and net present value, with and without support schemes such as electricity support (strømstøtte) and Norgespris.
  • A range rather than a single number, drawn from the variation in your own history and in the weather, so you can see how uncertain each result is.

What the results can and cannot be used for

The results are decision support: a way to compare measures and to know which questions to ask a supplier. They are not an offer, a price quote or a guarantee of savings.

  • Estimates depend on the data you provide and on assumptions about future prices, which will change.
  • Ravolva does not assess your roof structure, electrical installation, building permits or grid connection. An installer must check these.
  • Get quotes from suppliers before you decide, and compare them with the numbers here.

Your data

Your consumption data and project settings are stored so you can come back to your analysis, and are used only to calculate results for your own project. The outside services above receive only what the calculation needs from them, such as your coordinates for the solar data. You can delete your account and all projects at any time.
